The Amazon Prime series Fallout, premiered on April 10. Based on one of the 'greatest video game series of all time,' Fallout stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins and others in a story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have.
The Hudson Valley Film Commission started working with the production in August of 2021.
Over the next 9 months, dozens of other locations were considered by the location team. Ultimately, the Widow Jane Mine in Rosendale was used.
"It’s a favorite location that we’ve recommended many times," said Hudson Valley Film Commission executive director Laurent Rejto. “ Fallout was by far, the largest production to ever film there."
For truck parking and prep work, the Film Commission recommended Ulster Community College nearby. Several other locations were scouted by writer, producer, director Jonathan Nolan (Westworld) but the cave ended being the sole regional location used. The location team still followed up with some kind words and we look forward to working with them on future projects.
“You are, without a doubt, the hardest working film rep in New York State, if not the country, and we are always grateful and humbled by your endless efforts.” –Chris Arena, IBT 817, Location Manager
"Thank you for your ongoing help regarding locations and logistics. Specific dates and times are still being finalized and details worked out. Thanks again as always.” –R. Richard Hobbs, IBT 817, Location Scout
“Fallout is one of the biggest productions we’ve ever worked with,”Rejto recalls. “It’s right up there with Avengers: Endgame and War of the Worlds, in terms of mega status. Our ability to attract these kinds of productions to the Hudson Valley region has helped to establish our region as one of the best places to bring films and TV productions. For the coming months, we’re thrilled that several major productions will be filming throughout the region."
Also featured in Fallout is local actor, playwright and filmmaker., Michael Cristofer who appears as Elder Cleric Quintus.
